Homemade Camping Gear
from: Helping Us With CampingWhether you are an experienced camper, or going on a camping trip for the first time, you quickly realize that camping gear can be very expensive. If you are experienced, then you will already have accumulated all the necessary equipment needed for a camping trip, such as a tent, sleeping bag, or a stove. However, if you have never been camping before, and would like to give it a try, you may want to save yourself some money by making homemade camping gear instead of purchasing everything all at once only to find that you really don’t enjoy camping at all.
There are many sites online, and books that are available, that will be able to show you step-by-step how to make homemade camping gear. With the right items, time, and skill, you will be making your own homemade camping gear that will save you a lot of money in the end. Having homemade camping gear is a great way to recycle old items, and it will be useful while you save up to buy that tent you always wanted.
Some homemade camping gear that you can easily make is your own tent or shelter by simply using a plastic tarp and a few poles, string, and pegs. However this is only recommended if you plan to go camping in a dry, warm area. You could also make an oven by using an old cardboard box by lining it with aluminium foil and placing a pan, with coals, on stones at the bottom of the box, then pushing coat hangers through the box to make a rack and the lid of the box can then be used like an oven door. Also making a sleeping bag out of a comforter is a possibility. However, this is only recommended if you are sleeping in an area where you know it will be dry and mild. Using an old shower curtain as extra protection under your tent or sleeping area is a great way to recycle an old item. Using old prescription bottles as waterproof containers for matches is another suggestion, or using a garbage bag as an emergency poncho is also a great way to recycle items or find uses for them.
Whatever way you come up with creating homemade camping gear, it is always wise to use what you have before going out and buying new items. Recycling old items and turning them into useful equipment will not only help you save on costs, but it will make you feel rather proud knowing that you made that piece of equipment. So why not try a few suggestions and see for yourself if creating homemade camping gear is the way to go.
